TODAY’s NAME:

Today’s name is MEDARDUS’ DAY. He was a bishop in St. Quentin ( today in France ) and in Tournai ( today in Belgium ).  When he died in the year 545 he gave away all his property.

Medardus is the patron for French vineyards and for the brewers.

Old Danish weather warning for this day:  As the weather is today it will continue to be for the coming eight weeks !

The name of the day is the same in Belgium:  SAINT MÉDARD.  He lived in the years 456-545.

TODAY’s EVENT:

1783:  20 % of Iceland’s population is killed by a volcanic eruption.

TODAY’s QUESTION:

What is the special traffic service iCOYOTE?

This is a service, which in real time warns you about speed controls ahead of you ( fixed as well as mobile cameras ). It also informs you about traffic jams and accidents – and proposes to you an alternative route. Finally, it tells you about speed limits before they start.  It all happens in real time.  And it is fully legal.

The service was started in France in 2005, and it now works in 23 European countries, incl. France, Germany, Poland, The Netherlands, Belgium, Spain and Italy.

A subscription costs about 13 € a month. The first month is free.  And you can finalise the subscription at any time.

There are, of course, other similar services.  But as far as I know they do have all the same functions.

QUESTION FOR TOMORROW:

What is a LIGHT YEAR?
