 NIELS’ MORNING GREETINGS

ON: DECEMBER 1

New edition

TODAY’s LENGTH:

This day is here in Belgium 8 hours and 11 minutes shorter than June 21. Its length is 8 hours and 18 minutes – from 08.23 to 16.41.

See more – also in English – about where you are on:  www.dagenslaengde.dk

TODAY’s NAME:

This day is called ARNOLD’s DAY.  He was a Franciscan monk, who in the year 1303 went to China as a missionary.

Arnold is the patron for all blacksmiths and horse dealers.

The day’s name in Belgium is SAINT ELOI.  He was a French saint from Noyon. He lived in the years 588-660.  He was in a way a colleague of Arnold ( see above ), because he is also the patron of horse dealers – and in addition also of veterinarians, engineers, gold smiths and other metal workers.  So, he is a busy saint.

TODAY’s EVENT:

1953: The magazine Playboy’s first issue is published with a photo of Marilyn Monroe in the nude.

TODAY’s QUESTION:

December – where does that name come from?  And what is linked to that month?

See the answer on my blog:  https://knowing-about-this.blogspot.com

I want to add that December 1 has a special tradition in Denmark.  You start using a CALENDAR CANDLE.  It has all days from December 1 to 24 printed on it.  And you burn the candle from one day to the next day every day.   This is part of traditional Danish HYGGE.

QUESTION FOR TOMORROW:

Koh-i-noor  - what is that? And which history is linked to it?
